UEFA Europa League Previews – 12-12-2013
Thursday is the final matchday of the UEFA Europa League and brings together 12 matches with a lot to play for for clubs around Europe. Out of tomorrow’s 12 games, 7 of them can make or shape the groups and qualification of different clubs. For fans of clubs such as Tottenham, it’s an easy final day having already secured the top position and thus qualification to the knockout rounds in early 2014.
For UK footy fans, eyes will be on both Swansea and Wigan as the two clubs look to a tricky final day in the Europa League. Swansea need just a draw against Swiss club FC St Gallen, a point that would be enough to see them advance. For Wigan, things look to be a lot harder as they must take all 3 points and hope that the other games go their way to shape the table. Wigan haven’t grabbed an away goal yet in the 2013/2014 group stages and need to score against Maribor tomorrow. The other game of importance finds Zulte Waregem vs Rubin Kazan.
PSV face Odessa in a huge group deciding match (the winner will advance) while things are going to be a lot calmer in London as Spurs face Anzhi at White Hart Lane looking just to hold their 100% record. Anzhi are also through to the next stages but a win for the Russian club would be a great finish to their group stage campaign.
Group E finds Fiorentina needing just a point against Dnipro and the Italian giants will advance with a group win. Eintracht Frankfurt have had a poor Bundesliga season so far but Thursday finds the club taking on Cypriot side APOEL and a win would do wonders for the struggling German club.
